Safeguarding Children
Everyone’s responsibility, every child, every day
At Everly East Academy, the safeguarding and welfare of every child is our highest priority. We are fully committed to creating and maintaining a culture where pupils feel safe, are listened to, are respected and know that their voices matter. Safeguarding is embedded in every aspect of school life and underpins our ethos, values and daily practice.
We recognise that safeguarding is far more than child protection alone. It includes promoting children’s physical and emotional wellbeing, supporting positive mental health, ensuring online safety, encouraging excellent attendance, identifying early help needs and protecting children from harm both inside and outside of school. We are vigilant in recognising that safeguarding concerns can arise in many forms and that all children, regardless of age, background, need or circumstance, have the right to feel safe and protected.
We foster a strong safeguarding culture where all staff understand that “it could happen here.” Every member of staff receives regular safeguarding and child protection training and is expected to remain alert to signs that a child may be at risk of harm, abuse, neglect, exploitation or vulnerability. Staff are trained to act immediately, report concerns without delay and follow robust procedures so that children receive the right support at the right time.
At Everly East Academy, we place great importance on building strong, trusting relationships with pupils. We want every child to know that there is always a trusted adult they can speak to if they are worried, upset or feel unsafe. Pupils are taught how to keep themselves safe through our curriculum, assemblies, pastoral support and wider safeguarding education, including learning about healthy relationships, personal safety, consent, emotional wellbeing and online risks.
We work in close partnership with parents, carers and external agencies to ensure that children receive coordinated, timely and effective support. Where concerns are identified, we take action swiftly and proportionately, always keeping the best interests of the child at the centre of our decision-making. We understand the importance of early intervention and are committed to offering help and support as soon as a need is identified.
Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We expect all adults in our school community — including staff, governors, volunteers, visitors and external professionals — to share our commitment to keeping children safe. All concerns, no matter how small they may appear, are taken seriously and acted upon appropriately. We maintain robust safer recruitment procedures, clear reporting systems and effective safeguarding leadership to ensure the highest possible standards are consistently upheld.
At Everly East Academy, we are proud to provide a safe, inclusive and nurturing environment where children are not only protected from harm, but are supported to thrive, achieve and flourish. Our commitment to safeguarding is unwavering, because every child deserves to feel safe, valued and cared for every single day.

For Staff
Safeguarding is paramount at Everly East Academy and is the responsibility of every member of staff. All staff are expected to maintain a culture of constant vigilance, recognising that concerns can arise at any time and that “it could happen here.” If you have any concern about a child’s safety or wellbeing, you must act immediately by recording and reporting it in line with school procedures. Any disclosure must be listened to carefully, taken seriously and passed on without delay to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or safeguarding team. Staff must never promise confidentiality and must always act in the best interests of the child, ensuring timely and appropriate support.
For Visitors
At Everly East Academy, we expect all visitors to share our commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. If you see or hear anything that causes concern about a child, you must report it immediately to a member of the safeguarding team before leaving the site. Visitors should not attempt to investigate concerns themselves or promise confidentiality to a child. All visitors must follow school safeguarding procedures, wear identification at all times and act in a way that protects and promotes the safety and wellbeing of every pupil.
